This is my sister, Annie, who graduated with me. |
I just recently graduated from Brigham Young University-Provo with my undergraduate degree in English. I love literature--American Lit in particular--and I enjoy writing as well. About halfway through my undergrad I thought I wanted to go into English Teaching--teaching high school or middle school students. After just a few weeks in the classrooms, however, I realized that I just wasn't cut out for the classroom management, endless grading, and 6:00 am-5:00 pm days. What I did love, though, was the one-on-one interactions with the students. I loved being there to listen to their woes and dramas and offer advice to help them get through the rough teenage years.
After my experience in the classrooms, I realized what I really wanted to do with my life was help people in more intimate settings. I happened to be dating my husband-to-be at the time, and his mother is a licensed marriage and family therapist. I started reading up on the career and took a few prep classes in school and realized I absolutely loved it. I still loved my English classes, but I couldn't get enough of the family theories and principles.
Through a few small miracles, I eventually made some connections with BYU's faculty, applied this last winter, and was accepted in February to their Master's program. A PhD is not out of the question, but we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it.
For now, I am eager to learn and I wanted to create an archive of the new things I'm learning from my research, classes, and therapy sessions. Thanks for reading along and following my journey to licensure!
So you remember our deal? No analyzing the family....?
